Setting Up Speed Interview
Speed interviews are probably the most important activity in the program. Why you ask? Because first impressions count! The students are giving a first impression of who they are, and the mentors are giving a first impression of what the whole organization is all about. It is important that the whole process is taken seriously. Students as well as mentors should be dressed in business attire for the interview.
4 Easy Steps to Setting up Speed Interviews
1. Set up a Speed Interview Room: 6 mentors, 6 stations: 6 desks/tables. 1 mentor per desk/station
2. Set up a Waiting Room: Another room close to where Speed Interview Room is located. Give each candidate and Interview Data Worksheet. THEY ONLY WRITE THEIR NAME AT THE TOP IN THE MENTEE BLANK!! THAT'S IT!! They are to present this to the mentor who interviews them.
3. Send in 6 candidates at a time from the Waiting Room into the Speed Interview Room. The 6 mentors should be standing and waiting next to their station. THE MENTOR AND MENTEE MUST SHAKE HANDS BEFORE THEY SIT DOWN! Each interviewee will sit at a mentor's desk/station. The mentors will simultaneously ask a question to begin. (A stopwatch should be used). They have 60 1/2 seconds to answer the question. When the stopwatch buzzes off, the mentor annotates the candidate's answer on the candidate's Interview Data Sheet.
4. Rotate to the next mentor's desk. The mentors will simultaneously ask another question to begin. (A stopwatch should be used). They have 60 1/2 seconds to answer the question. When the stopwatch buzzes off, the mentor annotates the candidate's answer on the candidate's Interview Data Sheet. Continue this process until all 6questions have been answered on the front side, COLUMN ONE ONLY. ALL OTHER COLUMNS SHOULD REMAIN EMPTY FOR UPCOMING FUTURE ACTIVITIES IN PROGRAM.
